DNA microarray analysis of the liver revealed\nthe notable expression pattern of genes related to the immune system. In addition to\nFcer1g and Fcgr2b encoding the Fc receptor, several genes involved in antigen processing\nand presentation by the MHC I and II pathways were up-regulated, which were\nconsidered to promote the immune response. Moreover, the enhanced gene expression\nof Phase II xenobiotic metabolizing enzymes (e.g., glutathione S-transferase) was also\nobserved. It was, therefore, assumed that the consumption of raw nagaimo would\nfavorably modulate the biotransformation of noxious substances such as carcinogens to\nreadily excrete as the water-soluble form.
