Ambroise Pare, the originator of modern surgery, was also a Renaissance humanist with compassionate and observational mind, who lived in 16^<th> century France previous to the establishment of medical and dietetic science. In comparison with modern scientific medicine and surgery, several characteristics were found in his surgery : First, his surgery was a therapeutics complemented with regimen, a good way of living, and pharmacotherapy ; Secondly, one person's constitution had a more important role on the treatment of patients than diseases themselves ; Thirdly, his therapeutics was a learned art for recovering the wholeness by complementing the body's natural healing power with regimen or a good way of living.
