| 内容記述 | In 1996, Hiroshi Abe retired from Asahiyama Zoo after 25 years of service. In the following year (1997) and in 2000, he visited Serengeti National Park, in Tanzania, Africa, where he was deeply impressed by seeing various animals living in their natural state, although he was accustomed to seeing animals from having taken care of most of the animals at the zoo, including lions. Based on these experiences in Africa, he wrote a series of three illustrated books dealing with the life of lions, including Raion No Yoi Ichinichi. In that illustrated book, he highlighted a day in the life of a baby lion and its parent, which to him seemed reserved when surrounded by herbivorous animals living on the African savanna, even though the lion is generally regarded as the king of the beasts. Using his sense of humor, the author depicted the harsh life of wild animals by focusing on a father lion who participated in child rearing, and he depicted the landscape of the African savanna. Through this work, which is based on his experiences as a zookeeper, he was able to establish his position as a full-fledged picture book author. |
